There is a lot of discussion about what the exact structure of plasmodesmata might be. While there are a number of features that there is general agreement on (the internal endoplasmic reticular tube, for example) most other details are up for grabs. (Such as whether that tube is open, closed, changeable, etc...) Here are some models, based roughly on some that have appeared in the literature, and on others that are the result of speculation here at Monash.
While these models have been taken from the literature, as I understand it, there is a strong possibility of misinterpretation on my part - I take full responsibility for any misunderstandings in how I have represented these models!
